1. Who is the Summer Conference Staff and how do I reach them?
Return to top 2. What amenities can I expect when I move in? State Street Village (SSV) is our new state-of-the-art residence hall. There are a few living options available in this complex. All bedrooms are furnished with seating and tables for a computer, and a separate phone line and communications cable for network and television access. A semi-suite consists of 2 bedrooms adjoined with a bathroom. Guests who choose the semi-suite option may share their bedroom with one other person, and both bedrooms share a semi-private bathroom. Also, guests living in the suites have access to a kitchen and lounge which is shared by the residents of their building. Linen packages (flat sheet and fitted sheet, pillow case, 1 towel, 1 wash cloth, soap, cup, blanket, and pillow) are available for an additional fee. You may have the option to pay the double or the double as a single rate. Return to top 3. How do I exchange linen? The front desk in every building will have extra linen pieces for you to exchange. All desks are open 24/7 for your convenience. Return to top 4. Can I request a roommate? Roommates are assigned based on gender and space availability. State Street Village floors are coed; individual apartments are not (unless requested). Roommates can be requested by emailing summerconferences@iit.edu. Every effort is made to place students who mutually request each other in the same apartment. Each roommate must request each other (ie: John must request Peter, and Peter must request John). Housing Services will make all efforts to accommodate roommate requests. Roommate requests cannot be guaranteed. Applicants will be given priority based on availability and according to the date the completed application is submitted. Assignments are made without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, disability, sexual orientation or veteran status. Return to top 5. Will my room have a phone? Each room has one phone jack that will provide local (312 area code) service. You are expected to provide your own phone. You need a calling card if you choose to make calls outside of the 312 area code. Return to top 6. What dining options are on campus? Café Ala Carte located in the Hermann Union Building (HUB), offers quick, convenient grab & go menu items. The Café offers a wide variety of beverages, light snacks such as candy and cookies, to more hearty fare like pre-made sandwiches, salads and sushi. This is a perfect place to stop if you don’t have time to sit down with your meal. Bonus points (in accordance with your meal plan) and cash may be used at this location. Hours of Operation: Monday through Friday 7:00 am - 3:00 pm Center Court located in the middle of McCormick Tribune Campus Center (MTCC) offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner in a relaxed atmosphere. Daily menus include made-to-order gourmet sandwiches, salad bar, grill, pizza, full breakfast. Vegetarian options are also available. Beer, wine, and specialty drinks are availble after 4pm, Sunday through Thursday. Hours of Operation: Monday-Thursday: 7:00am-10:30pm Friday: 7:00am-6:30pm Saturday: 11:00am-6:30pm Sunday: 11:00am-10:30am 7-Eleven located in the MTCC just across from State Street Village, is open 24 hours a day. Visit 7-E for a late night snack or to pick up an item you forgot from home. University Club located near the west entrance of the MTCC offers daily specials, as well as gourmet sandwiches and salads prepared by our talented team of chefs. Relax and enjoy being served by our customer focused staff. Our summer menu changes daily, so you’ll always be delighted, but never bored. Hours of Operation: Monday through Friday 11:30 am - 2:00 pm Return to top 7. Where can I park? Residential parking is available in the D1 parking lot on 33rd and Wabash. Commuter parking is available in the C8 (US Cellular) lot on 33rd and Wentworth. On-campus parking will be available to commuting students as well at an additional cost. Return to top 8. Where do I purchase a parking permit? Parking permits can be purchased prior to arriving on campus through your conference registration at the following rates. Permits may be purchased upon arrival in the HawkCard and Parking Services Office at 3201 S. State St.#516 from 8:30am-5:00pm. Guests that have not obtained a permit prior to arrival should park in the A4 Visitor Paylot on 32nd and State Street. Return to top 9. Do I need an IIT ID? If you will be staying on campus during your program, you should have your IIT ID card on you at all times. In addition to being used for identification purposes, your ID card has a variety of functions that play a key role to your daily activities on campus. Your id card allows you to access your meals during breakfast ,lunch and dinner. It is also needed to operate the laundry units, vending and copy machines located throughout the university. You will need your conference ID to access the MTCC after 7pm. If your conference is using a pre-purchased meal plan, your ID will serve as your payment tender. Return to top 10. Is Internet Service Available? SSV has internet access which is included in the housing fee. All guests are expected to provide their own computer and Ethernet cable and/or wireless card. MSV has wireless capabilities in the common areas and SSV has wireless capabilities in the private rooms and common areas. Please refer to your welcome packet for specific "Internet Hook-up" information. Return to top 11. How do I make arrangements for guests to visit? Return to top 12. What if my room needs maintenance? Please report all maintenance issues to Housing Service. A maintenance request may also be submitted online at housing.iit.edu or by calling Housing Services Return to top 13. Where is the closest post office and copy center? You can purchase stamps and mail envelopes and boxes of any size overnight and overseas at the MTCC Mail and Copy center. You can also get everything from simple black and white copies to full color banners made at the Mail and Copy Center. Open 8:30am - 5pm, Monday - Friday. Return to top 14. How does the public transportation work in the area? The CTA (Chicago Transit Authority) Green Line runs through IIT’s campus. The CTA Red Line is located approximately 3 blocks west of campus. Both lines will take you directly downtown in mere minutes. Busses also run on Michigan Ave. and State Street. Visit the Chicago Transit Authority’s website at www.transitchicago.com to get more information. Return to top 15. Can I smoke in my room? Smoking is not permitted in the residence halls or within 15 feet of any entrance to the residence halls. Return to top 16. What is the alcohol policy?
Return to top 17. Is there a recreational facility on campus? Keating Sports Center is IIT’s sports facility located on the South end of campus. Keating houses two full-size basketball/volleyball courts, 4 raquetball courts, a weight room, and a 6-lane, 25 yard pool with both high and low diving boards. Hours of Operation: Monday-Friday: 7:30am-1:30pm and 4-8pm Saturday and Sunday: 9am-2pm Summer hours may change Return to top 18. What is the cancellation policy? Cancelations of room and board must be made 10 days prior to the start of each session for a full return. Requests made between 10 days and the start of the session will be assessed a cancelation fee of $50. Any cancelations made on or after the move in day for the session will waive the full cost of room and board. Return to top |
